We are offering a reward of up to R5 000 to those who report an incident or provide information, related to theft and vandalism of water and sanitation infrastructure. The information needs to lead to a successful arrest, or recovery of stolen infrastructure, and your identity will be kept confidential.
Please be vigilant and help us protect the infrastructure that provides our basic services.
From July to November 2021, we spent R1,9 million on replacing more than 2 293 missing or stolen sewer manhole covers, in various areas. In addition, 33 sewage pump stations have been vandalised or impacted by theft since July 2020. This leads to an inability to pump sewage to wastewater treatment works, and results in sewage overflows across the city.
We have also seen an increase in threats and attacks against our frontline staff members. There’s been an increase in hijackings, armed robberies and stoning of our water and sanitation vehicles.
If you witness an incident or know of one that may take place, please report it immediately to our emergency call centre:
107 from a landline; or
021 480 7700 from a cellphone
Take a stand against criminals and help us protect our infrastructure.
