As soon as the IEC announced the list of 34 candidates standing to represent you in Ward 57, the OCA tried to track down email addresses for all of them, either through Facebook, google searches or through the political parties under whose banner they are standing. In the end we were able to make contact with 24 of the candidates, either directly or through their parties.
Following on from yesterday’s Town Hall, tomorrow’s Town Hall will consist of a further 6 candidates who responded to our request to meet their electorate. They are:
African Freedom Revolution – Zola Xaki, African National Congress – Phiko Ngonyama, Democratic Independent Party – Shenaaz Mohamed, Democratic People’s Alternative Party – Azeem Omar, National Freedom Party – Youssef Kanouni, Spectrum National Party – Claude Rossouw.
The zoom meeting will start promptly at 18.30 and end at 19.30. The first half hour will consist of the moderators posing questions to the candidates regarding the manifestos that they submitted. Each candidate will have 3 minutes to respond to these questions. None of the candidates have been briefed in advance as to what these questions will be. During the second half hour, candidates will be asked to respond to the questions which you submitted to the OCA via email. Towards the end of the meeting, we will conduct a poll through zoom asking you to rate the performance during the meeting of each candidate, based on how you feel each candidate is likely to represent YOUR voice in the City of Cape Town’s government. Your top rated candidates will be invited to a final Town Hall meeting next week where you will have the chance to “grill” them directly.
Only the candidates and the moderators will be able to unmute their microphones during the meeting, so please have your questions ready to post in the chat box. The meeting will also be broadcast live on the OCA’s Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/ObservatoryCivicAssociation . This means that even if you can’t attend the zoom meeting you will always be able to watch it on the OCA Facebook page at later time or date.
