Dear valued stakeholder
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate is pleased to invite you to the inaugural meeting of the Lower Salt River Catchment Management Forum.
This session aims to engage interested and affected stakeholders in the establishment of the forum, which seeks to collaboratively address the challenges related to the sustainable management, cleanliness, and conservation of the catchment area. The meeting will also include discussions on further collaboration and the election of office bearers (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Secretariat).
Your expertise and input as a key stakeholder is invaluable to the success of this initiative.
We encourage all stakeholders who reside, work, or operate businesses and industrial or agricultural activities in and around the catchment area to become active members of the forum. Together with the City, our shared goal is to find collaborative solutions to reduce urban pollution entering our rivers, canals, and waterbodies.
We request that the Subcouncil representatives and stakeholders also forward this invitation to the registered community organisations on their databases and other individuals and community groups who would also be interested in participating in the discussion.

About the catchment area
The Salt River catchment is one of the three largest catchments in the City of Cape Town;214 km2 and is almost entirely urban. It has several tributaries from the Liesbeek to the Vygekraal. These rivers are affected by urban and residential areas, various small tributaries, treated effluent, canalised tributaries, and stormwater drains.
