This winter, the City of Cape Town is calling on Capetonians to help us control the spread of English Ivy

This creeping invader is threatening our trees, parks and biodiversity.

As beautiful as Ivy might look, it’s a serious problem.

If left to grow unchecked, it can:
🌳 Smother trees
🌳 Block sunlight, and
🌳 Cause them to collapse.

It also outcompetes our local plants, damaging the natural balance of our green spaces.

The City is working hard to manage Ivy infestations in public areas, but we need your help, especially now, while the plant is dormant.

✅ Here’s how you can take action:
* Remove Ivy safely from your garden
* Never dump trimmings in natural areas as they can regrow
* Report sightings in public spaces via the City’s C3 system
* Log infestations on the iNaturalist app to help us track spread

Help the City beautify its parks and public open spaces by removing Ivy from your garden and reporting it where it grows in Public Open Spaces.

If we all do our part, we can protect our urban forests and biodiversity.
