Residents are urged to stay alert — scammers are posing as officials from the City of Cape Town Revenue Department and attempting to gain access to properties under the pretext of “scheduled disconnections” due to alleged municipal arrears.
A recent incident occurred in Observatory, where individuals sent WhatsApp messages claiming to be from the City’s Revenue Department, complete with photos of people in municipal-style clothing. They stated they would “arrive within 2 hours” to disconnect services.
⚠️ Please note:
The City of Cape Town does not send WhatsApp messages from personal numbers.
Officials will always carry City identification cards and issue official notices in writing.
