Dear Journalists, Media Houses, Partners and Interested & Affected Parties. The PHA Campaign has stopped 5 of the 6 developments proposed in the Philippi Horticultural Area over the last 16 years including a Consol Silica Sand mine over a wetland. This was rejected by City’s own appeal bodies, Heritage Western Cape and DWS. The 500ha Oaklands City Development is the last one standing, speculating with union pension fund money. Will the City approve the rezone and become complicit in land speculation that will delete the city’s food, water supply, delete 3000 direct and 30 000 indirect jobs, and the city’s climate resilience, and put pension funds at risk?
