Have you heard of Loaves and Fishes? It is a second phase shelter in Observatory. They are in dire financial straits at the moment as the Department of Social Services have not paid the 3 month stipend to them (they get a small amount of money for each resident from the DSS). Apparently this was an error in the system! This means that they will not be able to pay salaries at the end of the month.
There is a campaign being run on Facebook – Observatory Western Cape to encourage people do make a Mandela Day donation to Loaves and Fishes. Please spread the word!
There are currently 29 men and 8 women living there and trying to restore their lives. They have had some wonderful success with their clients, it is a good organisation.
