Dear Leslie London,
I have just read your Opinion piece on News 24.:
The spinning approach used by these developers reminds me of the Costa Areosa attempts in the 1970s to take over Sandy Bay and Karbonkelberg which was eventually stopped – they used full pages in the Cape Times and a variety of other tactics to discredit the objectors and especially the
” sun worshippers “. Fortunately the beauty and soul value of these areas later came to be protected by inclusion in Table Mountain Nature Reserve.
Much public outcry and physical protests and court cases later we can still enjoy the absence of aerial railways and 1000s of houses plus hotels etc. on the slopes.
The drive along that section of Liesbeek Parkway after traffic frenzy on DeWall Drive, N2 and other routes has always been calming and interesting and will be lost in our CoCT frantic efforts to financially sustain a densifying urban complex where human values often seem be inadequately considered !
Thanks for your efforts and information!
