Solar PV and battery system installation: Important information

With Eskom’s intense load-shedding, Capetonians are increasingly choosing to install solar PV and battery systems.

The City thanks customers for choosing safe and legal installations and applying for authorisation, which is a national requirement. In an effort to speed up the application process, from 1 October 2023, all new solar PV and/or battery systems must use a City-approved inverter and have all the right sign offs before switching on.

Only allowing these grid-tied systems will dramatically improve authorisation turnaround time.

Pre-October authorisations will remain valid and applications will be processed, but priority will be given to grid-tied systems using City-approved inverters.
