Every month a group of volunteers run a public litter clear up on the river in Obs. This is under the umbrella of Friends of the Liesbeek but organised by Obs volunteers.
The Friends of the Liesbeek team supplement the volunteers and enter the more challenging areas.
Coordinators are needed to “manage” a volunteer day – ideally twice a year
(The team know exactly what they are doing this is just to help with logistics and community participants).
What is involved
- Collecting and returning the litter pickers, bags and PPE for the team.
- Hanging the banner and putting out the bags etc
- Taking roll call of volunteers on the day & returning it to be added to the mailing list.
- Emailing the city two days before the event to ensure bags are collected.
- Providing water for the team.
- Being onsite for the duration (9am-2:30)
- Managing the payment for the team.
- Counting the bags of rubbish collected & emailing the count to FOL.
- Washing & checking the teams PPE before returning it.
- Emailing the city if the bags are not collected timeously.
