APART from beautifying Observatory through tree planting and gardening, the Obsid's ecology committee is planning to set up a recycling system for the suburb.

The system will not only recycle waste collected by the Obsid cleaning crew, but will offer a recycling service to residents. The idea is to minimise the amount of waste from Observatory that go to landfills.

Obsid COO Brian Amery says suggestions for a possible location for a composting, collection and sorting depot include the space underneath the Station Road bridge and the disused tennis courts in Strubens Road, which belong to the Council.

Amery says a suburb that significantly decreases the amount of waste that go to landfills can gain a rates rebate from council.
